Hamburg Metal Dayz: Final band and supporting program

Created by WackenHelge
05/14/2015

It is time to present you the complete program for this year's Hamburg Metal Dayz! Let's start with the bands: Beyond The Black are the final act to rock Markthalle Hamburg on Saturday, September 26! These metal upstarts add their acclaimed mixture of power, symphonic and gothic metal to the sounds of W.A.S.P. and Axxis. For a complete overview of the bands, head over here.

Since we've established the Metal Dayz as the heaviest event in the context of Reeperbahn Festival, we always put together exciting and interesting panels, workshops and readings. This year, we prepared the following:

Friday, September 25, our experts will talk about band booking and social media. How do your favourite bands get to play concerts? What's the impact of Facebook, Twitter and the other social platforms on the metal scene? These and many more questions will be answered and discussed by the specialists and you.

Christian Bass, drummer for Heaven Shall Burn, is going to focus on working with Roland V-Drum TD-30KV - be it at home or in the studio. How does recording work? What about jams and playalongs? Of course, questions are encouraged and trying out for yourself is allowed.

Blaze Bayley will talk about "singing and surviving on tour", so you can look forward to useful hints and funny anecdotes from 30 years in the business. Bayley was singer for Iron Maiden from 1994 to 1999, since then he has further made a name for himself with his projects Blaze and Blaze Bayley. Furthermore, he will join Godsized on stage and host the air guitar contest on Saturday.

This year, Mambo Kurt will not only take you on a wild home organ ride through music history, but also read from his memoirs "Heimorgel to Hell".

On Saturday, September 26, the traditional round of questions with Holger Hübner and Thomas Jensen, promoters of Wacken Open Air, will take place.

"Heavy Metal Coach" Rainer Biesinger will present his book "The Fire Of Change - Für ein besseres Leben ist es nie zu spät". In his autobiographical talk he explains how he fled his personal hell and why it pays to rock your life according to his method of "KRASS".

The Panel "How important are labels and deals these days?" will be held in English. The issues in question will be whether bands and musicians are still highly dependend on classic labels, or if new methods of self promotion are powerful enough.

Sarah Chaker is a metalhead - and research associate at the Department of Music Sociology at University for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. Last year, she published her monograph "Schwarzmetall und Todesblei", an in-depth analysis of the black and death metal scenes in Germany. In her panel, she will talk about our favourite style of music in the light of various academic disciplines.

On top of these, there are more activities like meet and greets, walking bingo, Belle La Donnas fiery burlesque show and bodypainter Peer Elshoff, who will embellish you with free airbrush tattoos. For a complete overview of the program, please click here.
