Movies at W:O:A 2019
Also during this year' Wacken Open Air we will show some films from the world of metal. The short films, documentaries and motion pictures will no longer be shown in the beer garden, but in the Gaming Village near the wristband exchange.
Short films
Together with the KurzFilmFestival Hamburg we show some films selected by W:O:A on a daily basis. Rumour has it that a certain forklift driver also plays a role - after all, safety at work is a top priority at W:O:A!
Lords of Chaos
Norway, at the beginning of the 90s: The band Mayhem is forming up and working on their debut album De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas. Why the way to this album justifies their own feature film should be known to everyone in the scene. Director Jonas Åkerlund (Ex-Bathory, Videos for Rammstein, The Prodigy) has relentlessly edited the events of that time and provides a unique insight into the history of True Norwegian Black Metal.

Syrian Metal Is War
The civil war in Syria has taken thousands of lives and even today the country has not come to rest. The documentary Syrian Metal Is War by Monzer Darwish deals with the Syrian metal scene and the effects of the war on it. It was shot in 2013 and 2014 in Syria, Algeria, Turkey, Greece and the Netherlands.
A special feature of the documentary is its perspective: Monzer Darwish is not a journalist from the West, who looks at a local scene. He himself is a Syrian, he was affected and became a refugee to save his life. With him he brought touching and also oppressive recordings of the metalheads from his homeland.

Heavy Trip
How do you live out your passion for metal when the rest of the village just watches without understanding and no concerts are given? The history of our festival starts in a similar way, but the fictional story in Heavy Trip is much more funny than our own genesis.
The Finnish comedy follows the band Impaled Rektum on their way to their first big show at a Norwegian festival.
Extreme Nation
India and the surrounding countries have created a vibrant Extreme Metal movement that is hardly noticed by the rest of the world. A true subculture has spread from India to Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal. The documentary shows how music overcomes the artificial borders of nations and how a common nation of metal emerges: The Extreme Nation.

The Bitch Movie
From 2001 to 2005, the Don Hill's Club in New York hosted monthly parties that focused on women from the local scene. During "Bitch: A Ladies Tribute To Metal" the microphone belonged to the women. What sounds like a simple motto party quickly became more. Even today metal is often firmly in the hands of men, the proportion of women on stage is still too low. The Bitch Movie shows how it could work.
