Once to Wacken – Frank’s Big Dream Came True

Frank had always loved Metal music, but never made it to Wacken Open Air. At 73 years old and gravely ill, he could no longer stand—but in 2024, he still made it to the main stages of W:O:A, where he enjoyed performances, including the Scorpions’ show.
Alongside his daughter Peggy, Frank was accompanied on this special day by a nurse, two ASB helpers, and project coordinator Luca Möhring: “I’ve been working with the Wünschewagen for years, but I’ve rarely seen anyone so happy.”
Lying on a mobile stretcher, Metalhead Frank was brought to the Infield, right in front of the main stages. There, he spent hours talking to fellow Metal fans, receiving gifts, and taking hundreds of selfies. “It was an emotional rollercoaster,” said Möhring.
Originally, Frank’s visit to the festival was planned only until 10 PM. “At midnight, we finally started heading back,” Möhring recalled. “Frank would have stayed until the very end. Huge thanks to the Wacken Open Air team for their incredible support—even a W:O:A T-shirt was waiting for Frank.”
As a farewell gift, the team took a Polaroid group photo, a keepsake for his hospice bedside table—a lasting memory of a day filled with joy and community.
A huge “thank you” to everyone who helps make wishes like this come true. If you’d like to contribute to fulfilling many more last wishes, the Wünschewagen gladly accepts donations at:
