Power Metal, Industrial and Punk behind door 12

We start the third week of our calendar with a colorful package of bands. And also our big raffle at xmas.wacken.com offers a great package of prizes today, check it out too!
The Spanish band Lords of Black are playing classical Power Metal, but they are also experimenting with progressive elements and this mixtures convinces us along a wide front. The musicians are very talented and they have released two albums so far to proof it. The band collects compliments from all sides but the most interesting is of course the invitation that was sent to singer Ronnie Romero – Richie Blackmore asked him to join the reunion of Rainbow!
Another name for the Wasteland Stage! The norweign musican Mortiis was founding member of Emperor but soon he started his solo-career and left the band. The solo project turned to a real band over the years and here they are! The band plays dirty Industrial Rock at the moment but they started with Dark Ambient back in the days.
40 years of Punk!
40 years ago, the boom years of Punk started, the year 1977 is deemed to be the year zero of the scene. Heavy Metal and Punk are sharing a lot of commonalities, both the scenes and the musicians influenced each other in the early days. Punk was always a topic for us at W:O:A, already in the 90s we had the first punk bands at the festival. In celebration of the upcoming anniversary, we invited two very special acts:
The Boomtown Rats released their self-titled debut album in September 1977 and they had the finger on the pulse with their songs. Instantly they became an important part of the history of Punk Rock and New Wave. The band split up in 1986 and especially Bob Geldof got famous with his later projects Band-Aid and Live-Aid. But now they are reunited and they will celebrate with us!
The UK Subs already rocked the fifth W:O:A back in 1994! The punk veterans are playing together since 1976 and they have released 26 LPs in this time – and the primary letters of the albums are in sequential alphabetical order – from A to Z. This year they completed the work with their final album Ziezo. The last Wacken show of the band was in 2009 – welcome back!
